A chinook salmon painting was a contender for a book cover in 2019. Plenty of caffeine fueled my vigorous attempt at the indescribable texture of fish scales.  Though the illustration was not used in the final scheme, I felt I communicated the inherent wildness of nature, which is my angle when painting wildlife.
